Lobos Slug It Out With Javelinas

KINGSVILLE, Texas – Four players had multiple hits as the Sul Ross State University baseball team (2-18 Lone Star Conference, 2-18) lost 12-9 to Texas A&M Kingsville (12-8 LSC, 13-9), Sunday afternoon at Nolan Ryan Field.

In the second inning, a single, walk and wild pitch had junior Joseph Binder at third and junior Brock Rogers at second.

Senior Estevan Ortiz laced a single through the left side to score Binder and put the Lobos up 1-0.  The Javelinas scored five runs in the bottom half.

In the fourth inning, Rogers and freshman Luke Garrett drew walks.  Ortiz singled to score Rogers and move Garrett to third.

A walk to junior Corbin Montayne loaded the bases with no outs.  A ground out moved the runners with Garrett crossing home plate.

A walk to fifth year player Primo Vasquez loaded the bases once again.  Following a strike out, SRSU used a walk and an error to score three more runs.

That put Sul Ross State up 6-5.  TAMUK scored seven runs over the next four innings to take control.  A two run blast by junior Chris Ulloa in the ninth accounted for the final margin.

For Sul Ross State, Binder, freshman Alfonso Lopez, Ortiz and Vasquez had two hits each. Lopez has now had a hit in eight consecutive games.  Junior Aiden Becker (0-1) gave up one hit, two runs and walked one in two-thirds of an inning.

For Texas A&M Kingsville, Tyler Schumann (1-4) gave up one hit, walked one and struck out five in 3.1 innings.
