Lobos See Chaps Move Ahead

ALPINE, Texas – Junior Aaron Morales had three hits as the Sul Ross State University baseball team (1-6 Lone Star Conference, 1-6) lost 25-1 and 16-10 to Lubbock Christian (3-4 LSC, 3-4), Saturday afternoon at Kokernot Field.

Game 1
Lubbock Christian scored six runs in the first inning and never looked back.

For Sul Ross State, Morales broke up the no-hitter with a single in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Senior Darren Acosta (0-2) gave up seven hits, eight runs, walked two and struck out two in 1.7 innings.

For Lubbock Christian, Ryan Markwardt (1-0) gave up two hits, one run which was unearned, walked one and struck out eight in six innings.

Game 2
In the first inning, junior Corbin Dube walked, stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch. Junior Joseph Binder grounded out to push Dube across the plate.

Lubbock Christian scored three runs in the second.  In the bottom half, fifth year player Primo Vasquez singled and went to second on a wild pitch.

Sophomore Rene Ramos blasted a triple to dead center field to score Vasquez.  A wild pitch would score Ramos to tie the game at 3-3.

In the fourth inning, the Chaps scored seven runs to break the tie.  In the bottom of the fourth, the Lobos used three hits, two walks and aggressive base running to score five runs.

LCU scored twice in the fifth to take a 12-8 lead.  In the bottom half, with one out, Ramos walked and stole second.

Following the second out, freshman Alfonso Lopez singled to left field to plate Ramos.  Dube slugged a double to score Lopez and make it 12-10.  Lubbock Christian scored four runs in the sixth and then shut down SRSU the last two innings. 

For Sul Ross State, Ramos had two hits and scored three runs while Morales and Vasquez had two hits each.  Senior Ryan Sandoval (0-1) gave up seven hits, eight runs, walked four and struck out two in three innings.

For Lubbock Christian, Aidan Moore (1-0) gave up five hits, three runs, walked two and struck out three in 2.3 innings.

Sul Ross closes the series with Lubbock Christian, Sunday, Feb. 9.  The game is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
