Sul Ross State Closes out Series With Chaps

ALPINE, Texas – Junior Joseph Binder and sophomore Rene Ramos had multiple hits as the Sul Ross State University baseball team (1-7 Lone Star Conference, 1-7) lost 18-4 to Lubbock Christian (4-4 LSC, 4-4), Sunday afternoon at Kokernot Field.

In the first inning, with two on and two outs, 5th year player Primo Vasquez singled to score junior Aaron Morales.

In the second inning, Binder ripped a single to left centerfield to score senior Ricardo Franco.  In the third inning, Morales blasted a shot over the fence in right field to make it 3-0, Sul Ross State.

Lubbock Christian scored five runs in the fourth inning.  In the bottom half, freshman Alfonso Lopez smacked a double to centerfield and moved to third when the fielder misplayed the ball.

Junior Corbin Dube walked to put runners on the corners with no outs.  The Chaps turned a double play; however Lopez scored on the play to make it 5-4.  LCU scored nine runs in the fifth inning to take control. 

For Sul Ross State, Binder and Ramos had two hits each.  Senior Jacob Salinas (0-1) gave up five hits, 11 runs with 10 earned, walked seven and struck out one in 4.3 innings.

For Lubbock Christian, Karson Dunn (1-0) gave up one hit and struck out one in three innings.

Sul Ross hits the road, Friday, Feb. 14, playing Angelo State.  The game is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m.
