Lobos Pick Up A Pair On The Road

LUBBOCK, Texas – Junior Tori Owens had five hits as the Sul Ross State University softball team (3-4) went 2-0 on Day 1 of the Lubbock Sports College Invitational, Friday at LCHS Softball Field.

Adams State (1-7) – W, 7-4
Sul Ross State drew first blood.  With two outs, freshman Alexandra Ramos singled through the right side.  Owens crushed a double to right center field to score Ramos.

In the fourth inning, the Lobos once again struck with two outs.  Sophomore Kaitlynn Frakes reached on an error.  Junior Kyndell Garcia singled with Frakes scoring.

Sophomore Vivian Jimenez singled up the middle.  Senior Alyvia Quintana delivered a pinch-hit home run to make it 5-0.

Adams State scored three runs in the fifth to close the gap.  SRSU scored two insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth.

For Sul Ross State, Garcia, Owens and Ramos had two hits each.  Freshman Janelle Leanos (2-0) gave up five hits, two runs and walked two in four innings.

For Adams State, Sydney Rodriguez had three hits.  Celie Page (0-3) gave up 12 hits, seven runs with one earned and struck out one in six innings.

UT Permian Basin (4-2) – W, 11-8
In the first inning, freshman Jenna Leanos drew a walk and moved to third on back-to-back wild pitches.  Ramos grounded out to score Leanos and put the Lobos up 1-0.

The Falcons scored three runs in the bottom half of the inning.  In the second inning, SRSU used nine hits to score eight runs to effectively end the game.

For Sul Ross State, Owens had three hits with two doubles and drove in two runs.  Five other Lobos had two hits each.  Junior Hannah Clark (1-0) gave up seven hits, five runs with four earned, walked three and struck out two in 6.7 innings.

For UT Permian Basin, Emery Aguila had three hits.  Layla Torres (1-1) gave up six hits, five runs and walked one in one inning.

Sul Ross State remains in Lubbock, Saturday, Feb. 8 taking on Chadron State and Lubbock Christian.  The games are scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., respectively.
