Sul Ross State Closes Out Tournament

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Sul Ross State University softball team (3-6) went 0-2 on the final day of the Lubbock Sports College Invitational, Saturday at Maner Park.

Chadron State (3-1) – L, 4-1
Sul Ross State struck first.  In the third inning, freshman Jenna Leanos singled to push junior Kyndell Garcia across the plate.

The Eagles score two runs in the bottom of the third and fifth innings.  In the seventh inning, the Lobos put two runners out.  CSC held SRSU off for the win.

For Sul Ross State, sophomore Vivian Jimenez and freshman Alexandra Ramos had two hits each.  Senior Alyvia Quintana (0-2) gave up nine hits, four runs and struck out three in five innings.

For Chadron State, Belle Akins (1-1) gave up seven hits, one run, walked one and struck out one in seven innings.

Lubbock Christian (9-1) – L, 13-5
In the first inning, Leanos singled and move to third on back-to-back ground balls.  Senior Ciera Avila was hit by a pitch.  On the next pitch, Avila stole home and Leanos stole home.

That put the Lobos up 1-0.  The Lady Chaps scored 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning to take control.

For Sul Ross State, Leanos had two hits and scored two runs while Avila drove in two runs.  Junior Leanza Chambers (0-3) gave up five hits, eight runs with five earned and walked one in one-third of an inning.

For Lubbock Christian, Kendall Ward (2-0) gave up two hits and struck out two in 3.7 innings.

Sul Ross State opens the home season, Friday, Feb. 14, playing Texas Woman's.  The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m.
