Sul Ross Opens Home Season

ALPINE, Texas – Junior Aaron Morales had four hits as the Sul Ross State University baseball team (1-4 Lone Star Conference, 1-4) lost 15-7 to Lubbock Christian (1-4 LSC, 1-4), Friday afternoon at Kokernot Field. 

Lubbock Christian struck first scoring three runs in the first inning.  Sul Ross State was held at bay until the fourth inning.

Morales led off with a double down the right field line.  Following a ground out, Morales moved to third on a wild pitch.  5th year player Primo Vasquez singled through the right side to score Morales.

The Chaps scored three in the top of the fifth for a 6-1 lead.  In the bottom half, junior Corbin Montayne walked and senior Alvaro Hernandez singled.

Junior Joseph Binder smashed the ball off the score board in left field for a three-run homer.  Morales followed with a home run over the sign in right centerfield.

That closed the gap to 6-5.  LCU scored seven runs in the sixth to seal the game.

For Sul Ross State, Morales had four hits (all extra bases) scored three runs and drove in two while Binder had two hits, scored twice and drove in three runs.  Junior Gage Cobb (1-1) gave up seven hits, six runs, walked two and struck out two in 4.7 innings.

For Lubbock Christian, Brevin McCool had four hits, scored three runs and drove in six runs.  Lex Garcia (1-0) gave up six hits, five runs, walked one and struck out four in 4.3 innings.

Sul Ross remains home, Saturday, Feb. 8, playing Lubbock Christian.  The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
