Sul Ross State Dukes It Out With Javelinas

KINGSVILLE, Texas – Junior Brock Rogers had two hits as the Sul Ross State University baseball team (2-15 Lone Star Conference, 2-15) lost 8-5 to Texas A&M Kingsville (9-8 LSC10-9), Friday night at Nolan Ryan Field.

In the third inning, freshman Alfonso Lopez was at second following a walk and fly out.  Lopez stole third and scored when the throw sailed into the outfield.

The Javelinas scored six runs over the next three innings to lead 6-2 after six innings.  In the seventh, with two outs, junior Aaron Morales doubled and sophomore Rene Ramos was hit by a pitch.

Rogers singled to load the bases.  Lopez ripped a single to score Morales and Ramos and make it 6-4.  TAMUK came back with two runs in the bottom half of the inning.

In the ninth inning, with two outs, Ramos had a solo home run.  An error, walk and single loaded the bases for SRSU.  The Javelinas got a pop up to end the game.

For Sul Ross State, junior Gage Cobb (0-4) gave up eight hits, six runs, walked two and struck out two in three innings.

For Texas A&M Kingsville, Karson Shepherd (3-2) gave up two hits, one run which was unearned, walked four and struck out four in 3.3 innings.

Sul Ross State stays on the road, Saturday, Mar. 1, playing Texas A&M Kingsville.  The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m.
