Lobos Battle To The End With Eagles

EDMOND, Ok. – Seniors Cam Clardy and Ethan Yancy scored 20+ points as the Sul Ross State University men's basketball team (2-18 Lone Star Conference, 3-22) lost 76-71 to Oklahoma Christian (5-15 LSC, 8-17), Thursday night at the Eagles' Nest.

For the first four minutes, Sul Ross State and Oklahoma Christian battled on even terms.  Up 9-5, the Eagles scored 14 straight points to take control.  OCU led 36-17 at halftime.

Down 43-23 at the 16:22 mark, the Lobos began to fight back in.  Clardy hit a driving lay-up to close off a 21-5 burst.  That cut the margin to 48-44 with 9:50 left.

Oklahoma Christian pushed the lead to 12, 56-44 at the 6:40 mark.  SRSU responded with a 19-11 run.

That made it 67-63, Eagles with 1:32 left.  OCU hit nine free throws down the stretch to hold on.

The Lobos held the Eagles to 25% on 3-pointers.

For Sul Ross State, Yancy had 24 points, 10 rebounds and six steals, Clardy scored 22 points with three treys and senior Cailean Ables scored 10 points.

For Oklahoma Christian, Marco Foster scored 19 points.

Sul Ross State stays on the road, Saturday, Feb. 22, playing Cameron.  The game is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m.
