Sul Ross State Slugs It Out With Rams

SAN ANGELO, Texas – Senior Estevan Ortiz and junior Brock Rogers had multiple hits as the Sul Ross State University baseball team (1-11 Lone Star Conference, 1-11) lost 9-5 to #2 Angelo State (10-2 LSC, 10-2), Sunday afternoon at Foster Field.

Angelo State took a 4-0 lead after three innings.  In the fourth inning, fifth year player Primo Vasquez walked and Rogers singled to left field.

That put two on with two outs.  Ortiz ripped a single to score Vasquez and Rogers.  Senior Ricardo Franco dropped in a single to score Ortiz.

That made it 4-3, Rams.  ASU scored four runs in the fifth inning to effectively seal the game.

For Sul Ross State, Ortiz had three hits and drove in three runs while Rogers had two hits.  Senior Jacob Salinas (0-3) gave up five hits, eight runs with seven earned, walked six and struck out two in 4.3 innings.

For Angelo State, Luke Olson (1-0) walked one and struck out two in two innings.

Sul Ross is back home, Friday, Feb. 21, playing Texas A&M International.  The game is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m.
