Sul Ross State Closes Out Home Season

ALPINE, Texas – Four players scored in double-figures as the Sul Ross State University men's basketball team (2-17 Lone Star Conference, 3-21) lost 97-84 to Eastern New Mexico (12-7 LSC, 17-8), Saturday afternoon at the Pete P. Gallego Center.

For the first 13 minutes, the game resembled more of someone using a yo-yo.  There were seven lead changes and two ties during that frame.

Senior Ethan Yancy hit two free throws to give Sul Ross State a 22-20 lead at the 8:32 mark.  Eastern New Mexico pushed the lead to six, 30-24 with 5:58 to go.

The Lobos got two free throws from senior Cam Clardy and a dunk from sophomore Myles Amason.  That cut it to 30-28 at the 5:20 mark.  The Greyhounds scored nine straight points to effectively end the game.

For Sul Ross State, Yancy had 26 points and was 10-of-12 from the line, senior Tyler Jackson scored 13 points while senior Cailean Ables and Amason scored 10 points each.

For Eastern New Mexico, Mario Whitley scored 32 points.

Sul Ross State take to the road, Thursday, Feb. 20, playing Oklahoma Christian.  The game is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
