Lobos Fall In Lone Star Opener

AUSTIN, Texas – The Sul Ross State University men's basketball team (0-1 Lone Star Conference, 2-4) lost 66-52 to #14 St. Edward's (1-0 LSC, 10-0), Thursday night at the Recreation and Convocation Center.

The first half saw Sul Ross State and St. Edward's slugging it out virtually the entire way.  The lead was over four points for only 50 seconds total.

Senior Chianti Clay hit a tough jumper in the paint to put the Lobos up 20-19 with 23 seconds left.  The Hilltoppers scored just before the buzzer to lead 22-20 at intermission.

The battle continued for the first eight minutes of the second half.  Up 40-33 at the 12 minute mark, SEU scored 10 straight points to take control.

The Lobos were monsters on the defensive boards pulling down 30 to just four offensive for the Hilltoppers.  SRSU had its best performance of the season on 3-pointers shooting 43.8%

For Sul Ross State, Clay, junior Keagan Moncrief and junior Kevon Zilaee scored eight points each.  Junior Camren Roper had a very strong defensive effort pulling down 12 rebounds (11 defensive) with two steals.

For St. Edward's, Blake Nielsen had 18 points.

Sul Ross State keeps to the road, Saturday, Dec. 6, taking on #13 St. Mary's (Texas).  The game is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m.
