Lobos Fall To Comets

ALPINE, Texas – Four players scored in double-figures as the Sul Ross State University men's basketball team (0-3 Lone Star Conference, 2-6) lost 91-80 to UT Dallas (1-2 LSC, 1-9), Thursday night at the Pete P. Gallego Center.

For the first five minutes, Sul Ross State and UT Dallas battled on even terms.  Up 16-11 at the 14:49 mark, the Comets began a run.

UTD pushed the lead to 15, 32-17 with nine minutes to go.  The Lobos dug in and fought back.

Junior Antwonne Holmes hit two free throws with 27 seconds left to end a 23-10 run.  That closed it to 42-40 at halftime.

SRSU and UT Dallas battled back-and-forth in the second half.  Junior Camren Roper knocked down a tough shot in the paint.  That made it 63-63 at the 9:17 mark.  Over the next six minutes, the Comets went on a 16-7 run to take control.

The Lobos did a strong job on the defensive boards pulling down 21 to just six offensive for UTD.

For Sul Ross State, junior Keagan Moncrief scored 19 points, Holmes had 13 points and four steals, Roper had 12 points, six assists and two steals and senior Chianti Clay had 11 points and nine rebounds.

For UT Dallas, Jaden Jefferson scored 22 points.

Sul Ross State returns home, Friday, Jan.2 when they play Eastern New Mexico.  The game is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
