Lobos Keep Falcons Grounded

ALPINE, Texas – Three players were in double-figures as the Sul Ross State University men's basketball team (2-2) beat UT Permian Basin (2-2) 67-61, Saturday afternoon at the Pete P. Gallego Center.  This was the first win over the Falcons since Nov. 23, 2010.

The first half went back-and-forth as the lead was over four points for only three minutes the entire half.  Sul Ross State and UT Permian Basin combined for nine lead changes.

The Lobos led the entire second half, although UTPB closed to a point on two occasions.  UT Permian Basin cut the gap to 65-61 with 37 seconds to go.

The Falcons missed with 19 seconds to go, and junior Camren Roper got the rebound.  He was quickly fouled and hit two free throws to seal the game.

The Lobos pulled down 25 defensive rebounds to 11 offensive for UTPB.  SRSU held the Falcons to just 26.7% on triples.

For Sul Ross State, junior Tim Mikhailov had 14 points, junior Keagan Moncrief had 11 points, three steals and blocked two shots and junior Antwonne Holmes had 10 points with two treys.

For UT Permian Basin, Bryceson Burns had 17 points and six assists while Tash Lunday had 15 points and 13 rebounds.

Sul Ross State hits the road, Wednesday, Nov. 26, taking on St. Mary's (Texas).  The game is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m.
