Lobos And Roadrunners Shoot It Out

DENVER, Colorado – Juniors Antwonne Holmes and Jackson Thoele scored 20+ points as the Sul Ross State University men's basketball team (0-2) lost 113-103 to Metro State Denver (1-1), Monday afternoon at Auraria Events Center.  It was the final day of the LSC/RMAC Challenge.

For the first eight minutes, Sul Ross State and Metro State Denver went back-and-forth.  Junior Camren Roper scored in traffic to cut the gap to 20-16 at the 12:27 mark.

The Roadrunners pushed the lead to 12, 31-18 with 9:43 to go in the half.  The Lobos began to climb back into the game.

Roper hit a tough shot in traffic to make it 47-41 with 59 seconds left.  MSUD scored 12 straight points over the next two minutes to take control.

The Lobos forced 24 turnovers resulting in 28 points.  SRSU pulled down 21 defensive boards to just nine offensive boards for Metro State.  

For Sul Ross State, Holmes had 26 points (shooting 6-of-10 from the floor and 13-of-16 from the line) and Thoele had 22 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the floor.  Also in double figures were Julien Barclay (16 points, four triples), junior Tim Mikhailov (13 points) and Roper (12 points).

For Metro State Denver, Quave Propst-Allison scored 19 points.

Sul Ross State opens the home season, Thursday, Nov. 20, playing Angelo State.  The game is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.
