Lobos Clash With Yellow Jackets

DENVER, Colorado – The Sul Ross State University men's basketball team (0-1) lost 86-54 to #17 Black Hills State (1-0), Sunday afternoon at Auraria Events Center.  It was Day 1 of the LSC/RMAC Challenge.

For the first 10 minutes, Sul Ross State and Black Hills State battled on even terms.  Freshman Julien Barclay scored in traffic to put the Lobos up 19-18 at the 9:58 mark.

The Yellow Jackets scored 13 straight points to lead 31-19 with 5:19 to go in the first half.  SRSU began to battle back.

Junior Jackson Thoele hit two free throws to cut it to 33-29 at the 1:57 mark.  BHSU outscored Sul Ross State 15-3 over the next five minutes to seal the game.

The Lobos forced 23 turnovers, 15 of them steals, to produce 21 points.  SRSU shot 88.9% from the line (16-of-18).  

For Sul Ross State, junior Antwonne Holmes and Thoele scored nine points each.  Junior Camren Roper had a very strong defensive effort with six rebounds (all defensive) and nine steals.  His steals was second best in program history.

For Black Hills State, Jackson Myles scored 18 points.

Sul Ross State remains in Denver, Monday, Nov. 17, taking on Metro State Denver.  The game is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m. MT
