Lobos Throw Down With Falcons

ALPINE, Texas – Senior Cassandra Espinoza had another double-double as the Sul Ross State University volleyball team (1-11 Lone Star Conference, 3-15) lost 3-1 (25-15, 25-20, 25-27, 25-17) to UT Permian Basin (6-5 LSC, 8-13), Tuesday night at the Pete P. Gallego Center. 

In the first set, UT Permian Basin got off to a 7-3 early lead.  Sul Ross State battled back and forced an error.

That made it 10-9, Falcons.  UTPB went on an 8-1 run to effectively seal the set.

In the second set, the Lobos and UT Permian Basin went back-and-forth in the early goings.  Down 15-11, SRSU began to climb back in.

Junior Mia Espinoza fired out an ace to put Sul Ross State up 18-17.  The Falcons went on a 6-2 run to take control.

In the third set, neither the Lobos nor UTPB could put on a run to take control.  UT Permian Basin fought off three set points.

At 25-25, an error and a kill from sophomore Novah Carrasco gave SRSU the win.

In the fourth set, Sul Ross State and the Falcons traded points until 11-11.  The Falcons reeled off a 7-1burst to seal the match.

For Sul Ross State, Espinoza had 11 kills and 15 digs with junior BreAnna Quarles adding 20 digs.

For UT Permian Basin, Ashlee Macias had 15 kills and hit .333 while Kyndall Torres had 27 digs.

Sul Ross State hits the road, Wednesday, Oct. 29, playing Hardin-Simmons.  The match is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.
