Lobos Brings The Fight To Javelinas

ALPINE, Texas – There was no fear as the Sul Ross State University volleyball team (0-3 Lone Star Conference, 2-7) took a hard fought 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-17) loss to Texas A&M Kingsville (4-0 LSC, 12-2) (Receiving Votes), Thursday night at the Pete P. Gallego Center. 

In the first set, Sul Ross State got the crowd excited storming out of the gates.  An ace from junior Eliana Mata made it 3-0. 

The teams slugged it out until 12-12.  Texas A&M Kingsville went on an 8-3 run to take control.

In the second set, the Lobos forced an error to take a 4-3 lead.  The Javelinas reeled off a 15-6 burst to effectively end the set. 

In the third set, SRSU and TAMK slugged it out until 6-4.  Five straight points turned the tide for Texas A&M Kingsville.

For Sul Ross State, senior Cassandra Espinoza had eight kills and hit .261 while freshman Samantha Senak hit .556.  Mata recorded 12 assists and now needs just 29 to become the sixth Lobo to reach 1000 career assists.

For Texas A&M Kingsville, Natalee Rush had 10 kills.

Sul Ross State stays home, Saturday, Oct. 4, playing Texas A&M International.  The match is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m.
