Lobos Slug It Out With Dustdevils

ALPINE, Texas – The Sul Ross State University volleyball team (0-4 Lone Star Conference, 2-8) lost 3-0 (25-23, 25-13, 25-21) to Texas A&M International (1-3 LSC, 3-10), Saturday afternoon at the Pete P. Gallego Center.

The first set resembled more of a yo-yo game than a volleyball match.  Up 7-6, Texas A&M International scored four straight points.

Sul Ross State scored three in a row, capped off by an ace from junior Eliana Mata.  That closed the gap to 11-9.

The Dustdevils looked to be in control, up 18-15.  The Lobos reeled off three straight points to tie it at 18-18.

From there the teams traded points until 23-23.  TAMI scored two to take the set.

In the second set, at 10-10, sophomore Libby Foster fired the ball off the block.  That started a run of three straight points.

That put SRSU up 13-10.  Texas A&M International shut down Sul Ross State the rest of the way.

In the third set, the Dustdevils and Lobos slugged it out until 15-14, SRSU.  Senior Sarah Chavez got a kill and a service ace to put the Lobos up 17-14.

TAMI scored seven straight to take control.

For Sul Ross State, freshman Danielle Senak hit .462 while freshman Samantha Senak had two solo blocks.  Mata recorded 12 assists and now needs just 17 to become the sixth Lobo to reach 1000 career assists.

For Texas A&M International, Sierra Long had 13 kills.

Sul Ross State is home again, Tuesday, Oct. 7, taking on Angelo State.  The match is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.
