Lobos Leave Greyhounds In The Dust

ALPINE, Texas – It was a team effort as the Sul Ross State University volleyball team (1-7 Lone Star Conference, 3-11) beat Eastern New Mexico (1-6 LSC, 4-14) 3-0 (26-24, 25-22, 25-22), Thursday night at the Pete P. Gallego Center. 

In the first set, Eastern New Mexico stormed out to a 5-1 lead.  Sul Ross State fired back to tie the set at 7-7.

The Greyhounds and Lobos slugged it out until 15-13, ENMU.  SRSU forced an error to spark a 9-2 run to lead 22-17.

Eastern New Mexico came back to tie it at 24-24.  A serve error and a kill by sophomore Novah Carrasco gave Sul Ross State the set. 

The second set was a back-and-forth war the whole way.  Up 21-20, the Lobos went on a 3-1 run to lead 24-21.

The Greyhounds held off one set point.  SRSU forced an error to go up 2-0. 

The third set went back-and-forth until 9-8, Lobos.  Sophomore Emily Scott blasted the ball down the middle to start an 8-4 run to lead 17-12.

ENMU began to chip away closing the gap to 21-20.  Sophomore Anna Kasper found the back corner to close a 4-2 run to end the match.

For Sul Ross State, senior Sarah Chavez hit .389 while freshman Danielle Senak had three service aces.  Defensively, freshman Arianne Nieto had 12 digs and Scott finished with 10.

For Eastern New Mexico, Imahni Brown had 16 digs.

Sul Ross State stays home, Saturday, Oct. 18, taking on #13 West Texas A&M.  The match is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m.
