Lobos Watch Lady Buffs Move On

ALPINE, Texas – The Sul Ross State University volleyball team (1-8 Lone Star Conference, 3-12) lost 3-0 (25-13, 25-15, 25-19) to #13 West Texas A&M (7-1 LSC, 15-4), Saturday afternoon at the Pete P. Gallego Center.

In the first set, Sul Ross State and West Texas A&M went back-and-forth in the early going.  Sophomore Anna Kasper smashed the ball off the block.

That tied the match at 8-8.  The Lady Buffs reeled off six straight points to take control.

The second set was identical to the opening set.  Kasper and freshman Samantha Senak stuffed the WTAM hitter.

That made it 10-10. West Texas A&M scored five in a row to effectively end the set.

The third set looked like it was done with the Lady Buffs leading 20-12.  The Lobos refused to quit and stormed back in.

Senior Cassandra Espinoza hammered the ball down the middle to end a 7-2 burst.  That closed it to 22-19.  WTAM recovered and got the next three points to end the match.

For Sul Ross State, Senak had an impressive day at the net with six block assists.  Defensively, freshman Arianne Nieto had nine digs.

For West Texas A&M, Emma Becker had 12 kills and Currie Marusak had 12 digs.

Sul Ross State remains home, Thursday, Oct. 23, taking on Oklahoma Christian.  The match is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.
