Lobos and Patriots Go To War

DALLAS, Texas – It was a battle as the Sul Ross State University volleyball team (0-7 Lone Star Conference, 2-11) lost 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 28-26) to Dallas Baptist (4-2 LSC, 10-4), Saturday afternoon at the Burg Center. 

In the first set, Dallas Baptist and Sul Ross State slugged it out most of the way.  Down 18-15, the Lobos began to climb back in. 

Junior Mia Espinoza dumped the ball over to close the gap to 19-18.  The Patriots went on a 4-1 run to take control.  

In the second set, DBU came out firing away getting to a 12-5 lead.  SRSU gritted its teeth and turned out a 9-4 run.

Sophomore Novah Carrasco blasted the ball down the line to make it 16-14.  Dallas Baptist scored three in a row to effectively end the set. 

The third set went back-and-forth until 9-8, Patriots.  Freshman Samantha Senak fired off a kill to start a run of five straight points.

That made it 13-9, Sul Ross State.  DBU chipped away before finally tying the set at 19-19.  Down 24-22, the Lobos fought off four match points.

Sophomore Anna Kasper bounced the ball off the block to make it 26-26.  The Patriots got the next two points to take the match

For Sul Ross State, Kasper and freshman Danielle Senak had eight kills each.  Junior Eliana Mata had 10 digs.

For Dallas Baptist, Karly Wells had 18 kills.

Sul Ross State returns home, Thursday, Oct. 16, taking on Eastern New Mexico.  The match is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.
