Lobos See Pioneers Head West

DENTON, Texas – Junior Eliana Mata hit a milestone as the Sul Ross State University volleyball team (0-6 Lone Star Conference, 2-10) lost 3-0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-15) to Texas Woman's (3-2 LSC, 10-6), Friday evening at Kitty Magee Arena. 

In the first set, Sul Ross State and Texas Women's slugged it out early.  Senior Cassandra Espinoza fired the ball down the line.

That cut the gap to 8-5.  The Pioneers ran off a 7-2 run to effectively end the set. 

In the second set, TWU stormed out to an early 5-1 lead.  Freshman Danielle Senak dropped in an ace to close out a 3-0 run.

That made it 5-4, Texas Woman's.  The Pioneers reeled off an 8-2 burst to take control.

In the third set, the Lobos refused to go down without a fight.  Freshman Samantha Senak blasted the ball off the block.

That pulled SRSU to one, 10-9.  TWU scored six straight points to pull away.

For Sul Ross State, S. Senak hit .286 while D. Senak collected 12 digs.  Mata finished with 14 assists.  That gives her 1006 for her career, the sixth Lobo to record 1000 assists.

For Texas Woman's, Sydney Garrison had 14 kills and Tori Woods added 12 kills.

Sul Ross State keeps to the road, Saturday, Oct. 11, playing Dallas Baptist.  The match is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m.
