Sul Ross State Watch Mustangs Gallop Away

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Senior Ethan Yancy had a strong game as the Sul Ross State University men's basketball team (0-9 Lone Star Conference, 1-13) lost 88-62 to Midwestern State (6-2 LSC, 11-3), Saturday afternoon at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

Sul Ross State drew first blood as junior Deon Brown tossed one in from outside the coliseum at the 19:46 mark.  Midwestern State turned around and went up 15-7 with 14:12 left in the first half.

The Lobos refused to go quietly.  Senior Tyler Jackson scored in traffic to end a 6-0 run, making it 15-13 at the 13:08 mark.  The Mustangs then reeled off an 14-2 run over the next five minutes to take control.

The Lobos kept MSU in check from three-point range shooting just 20.7%.

For Sul Ross State, Yancy had 20 points and was 7-of-8 from the line.  Senior Cailean Ables scored 11 points and blocked three shots.

For Midwestern State, Bakari LaStrap had 19 points and eight rebounds.

Sul Ross State is back on the road, Thursday, Jan. 16 taking on Eastern New Mexico.  The game is scheduled to start at 8:00 p.m.
