VOLLEYBALL: SRSU suffers sweep to St. Mary's

Trying to continue the momentum after notching its first Division II win, the Sul Ross State volleyball team hosted the St. Mary's Rattlers on Saturday afternoon at the Pete P. Gallego Center.

The Lobos exhibited some great moments, but they suffered a sweep to the Rattlers.

>> HOW IT HAPPENED:

Using an early 3-0 run, the Lobos held a 4-2 lead highlighted by a kill from Eliana Mata.

St. Mary's went on a 7-0 run to claim a 9-4 lead.

The Rattlers grew their lead to nine points until the Lobos cut the deficit to six points after a 3-0 run that had a kill from Natalie Hernandez.

However, St. Mary's gained some momentum to lead by eight late in the set.

Early in the second set, the Lobos trailed 5-3.

Sul Ross State got another kill from Hernandez to put together a 3-0 run, taking a 12-9 lead.

The score was tied six times down the stretch. The Lobos managed to get within one point on two occasions as Hernandez and Sarah Chavez each had a kill.

However, the Rattlers pulled away by tallying the final kill of the second set to take a 2-0 match lead.

The Lobos held a brief 3-0 lead to start the third set before St. Mary's went on a 9-0 run to take an 11-4 lead.

St. Mary's held the lead from that point on to secure the sweep.
