PORTALES, N.M. — On Day 1 of the Lone Star Conference Volleyball Challenge, the Lobos suffered a loss to the Western New Mexico Mustangs in straight sets Thursday afternoon at the Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena.
>> HOW IT HAPPENED:
There were three brief lead changes to start the first set until the Mustangs began to pull away and control the game.
Using a 6-0 run, Western New Mexico led by eight points before taking the set.
The second set featured the same song, but a different verse as there were 10 lead changes at the beginning before the Mustangs used a 6-0 run to take a nine-point lead to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
Western New Mexico showed its dominance in the third set leading by 12 points in the middle of the game.
The Lobos went on a 4-0 run late in the game as
Angelli Sanchez,
Natalie Hernandez and
Edie Coleman came away with some kills, but the Mustangs were ahead by seven at that point.
