AUSTIN, Texas — Behind a solid double-double performance from
Tyler Jackson, the Sul Ross State men's basketball rolled past the Concordia University Tornados, 86-71, on Saturday afternoon at the Concordia Fieldhouse.
>> HOW IT HAPPENED:
There were three early ties in the score to start the first half.
The Lobos broke a 4-4 tie with a three from
Hayden Peterson before the Tornados tied up the score at 12-all.
Manny Flores highlighted a 4-0 run with a clutch three to give Sul Ross State a 16-12 lead.
Sul Ross State then went on a 12-0 run to lead by 14 with 7:56 on the clock. Jackson scored six points during the run.
Concordia cut the deficit to nine, but the Lobos responded with a 5-0 run that included a three from
Will Fievre.
The Lobos later extended their lead to 16 when
Myles Amason slammed down a dunk to start a 4-0 run.
Sul Ross State continued its hot streak on offense when
Cailean Ables started the second half with a dunk.
Zyrin Brantley and Flores then made a pair of shots in the paint to give the Lobos a 20-point lead.
The Lobos led by as much as 21 with 12:33 to go in the game after Jackson scored on a layup to highlight a 7-0 run.

- The Lobos notched the series sweep over the Tornados after winning the first meeting, 100-97, back on Dec. 18.
- Jackson finished with 28 points, 16 rebounds, three assists, two blocks and one steal.
- This is Jackson's first double-double since Dec. 18 when he tallied 29 points and 17 rebounds against Concordia.
- Flores scored 13 points while he also had four assists and three rebounds.
- Zyrin Brantley had eight points, five assists and two steals.
- Ables also scored eight points while he tallied two assists, one block and one steal.
- Gabe Sanchez added seven points and three rebounds.
- Peterson tallied six points and five assists.
- Amason finished with five points, four rebounds and two blocks.
- 11 Lobos scored in the contest.
- Sul Ross State grabbed 35 rebounds and recorded six blocks.
- The Lobos shot 13 for 16 from the free throw line. Jackson went 10 for 11 from the charity stripe.
- Sul Ross State also knocked down seven 3-pointers. Flores was 3 for 3 from beyond the arc while Peterson had two 3-pointers.
