MARSHALL, Texas — On Friday night, the Sul Ross State baseball team was swept by the No. 5 ranked East Texas Baptist University Tigers at Tiger Ballpark at Woods Field.
The Lobos fell in Game 1 by a score of 18-0 before losing the nightcap contest, 10-2.
>> GAME 1:
ETBU sent 14 batters to the plate in the first inning to take a 10-0 lead after tallying nine hits.
The Lobos had only three hits in the contest as
Jared Roiz singled in the second and the fifth while
Peyten Kennard hit a double in the seventh.
>> RECORDS: East Texas Baptist (4-3); Sul Ross State (0-8)
>> GAME NOTES:
- Roiz went 2 for 3 while Kennard finished 1 for 3.
>> GAME 2:
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when the Tigers drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to center.
Sul Ross State tied up the game in the top of the fifth when
Estevan Ortiz hit an RBI double to bring in
Aaron Morales.
ETBU took a 5-1 lead in the bottom half of the fifth by hitting a grand slam.
The Tigers tacked on four more runs in the sixth with a two RBI double and a two RBI single to make the score 9-1.
The Lobos scored their final run in the top of the ninth after
Alvaro Hernandez brought in Roiz on a ground out to short.

- The Lobos matched the Tigers with seven hits.
- Carsen Thor finished 2 for 4 with two singles.
- Morales went 1 for 5 with a single.
- Ortiz went 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI.
- Hernandez hit a double in the third to go 1 for 4.
- Lee Kubosh and Kennard both went 1 for 4 with a single.
- Jacob Salinas went 5.1 innings allowing three hits while he tallied five strikeouts.
- Christian Loveless struck out seven batters in 2.2 innings of work.
