GAME 10 PREVIEW: Lobos make long trek to Central Washington

This weekend, the Sul Ross State football team is making its final road trip of the 2024 season.

The Lobos are making an 1,814-mile trip up to the Pacific Northwest to take on the Central Washington Wildcats in Ellensburg, Wash.

 >> HEAD TO HEAD:

This is the first meeting between the Lobos and Wildcats.

>> SCOUTING THE WILDCATS:
  • The Wildcats are 6-3 overall and 5-2 in Lone Star Conference play. Central Washington currently sits in third place in the LSC.
  • Central Washington fell to conference-leading Angelo State last week, 17-16.
  • The Wildcats rank second in the LSC in offensive scoring (262 points), second in total offense (3,704 yards) and second in rush offense (2,237 yards).
  • Redshirt sophomore quarterback Kennedy McGill is the second-best rusher in the LSC with 891 yards on 122 carries and nine touchdowns.
  • McGill has completed 99 of 165 passes with 1,352 yards and 12 touchdowns.
  • McGill leads the LSC in individual total offense with 2,243 yards.
  • McGill also ranks second in the LSC with 891 all-purpose yards.
  • Redshirt junior running back Tyler Flanagan is the third-best rusher in the conference with 758 yards and 11 touchdowns on 155 carries.
  • Flanagan is second in the conference in scoring with 66 points scored.
  • Redshirt senior wide receiver Marcus Cook leads the receivers with 332 yards on 25 receptions.
  • Redshirt senior wide receiver Darius Morrison is second in the LSC with five receiving touchdowns.
  • Senior defensive back Tanner Volk leads the defense with 50 total tackles and 21 solo tackles.
  • Head coach Chris Fisk enters his sixth season at the helm.
  • Last season, Central Washington finished 9-4 overall and 7-1 in LSC play. The Wildcats went three rounds deep in the NCAA Division II playoffs.
  • The Wildcats dropped out of the D2Football.com top 25 this week after being ranked in the last 10 polls.

  • Quincy Blair is just two tackles away from tying the school record for most tackles in a career. Blair sits at 277 tackles.
  • The program record for most tackles in a career was set by Ronin Williams in 2022.
  • Blair eclipsed the century mark by tallying 101 total tackles this season.
  • Blair leads the LSC in total tackles and solo tackles.
  • Brendon Martin's 65 total tackles rank eighth in the LSC.
  • Andrew Martinez has 1,627 passing yards, tying him for the conference lead alongside Angelo State's Braeden Fuller.
  • Martinez leads the LSC in passing touchdowns with 13.
  • Austin Ogunmakin still leads the LSC in receiving yards with 650 yards on 31 catches.
  • Yamil Oaxaca is fourth in the LSC with 486 receiving yards while he leads the conference with seven touchdowns.
  • Oaxaca is eighth in the LSC in scoring with 48 points.
  • Oaxaca's 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown last weekend is the longest in the LSC this season.
  • Oaxaca ranks fifth in the LSC in all-purpose yards with 853.

>> FINALLY GETTING RECOGNIZED:

Arreola and Jordan Morales become the first student-athletes to earn LSC Player of the Week honors during the Division II era.

Morales had a breakout game, rushing for 122 yards on just six carries with two touchdowns in last week's 33-28 win over Eastern New Mexico.

Morales scored on an 85-yard run, the second-longest touchdown run in the LSC this season.

Arreola's 57-yard field goal was one two field goals made by the Clint, Texas native. He also made a 47-yarder while also making all three extra-point attempts.
