CANYON, Texas — For the first 11 points of the opening set, the Sul Ross State volleyball team was able to compete with the No. 6 ranked team in the country.
Unfortunately, the West Texas A&M Lady Buffs came away with the sweep over the Lobos on Friday night at the WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box."
>> HOW IT HAPPENED:
There were 10 lead changes in the first set.
Sul Ross State trailed 4-2 until
Natalie Hernandez got a kill and
Cassandra Espinoza served up an ace to tie the score.
As the momentum shifted back and forth, the Lobos went ahead 7-6 after a kill from
Anna Kasper and a service ace by Hernandez.
West Texas A&M then used a 5-0 run to pull away, and from that point on it never trailed in the set.
The Lady Buffs started the second set on a 5-0 run before
Edie Coleman got the Lobos on the board with a kill.
West Texas A&M took a 10-point lead by going on a 6-0 run. It later used another 6-0 run to make the score 22-6.
Sul Ross State trailed 3-0 early in the third set. Coleman got a kill to start a 3-0 run which tied the score.
The Lady Buffs then outscored the Lobos 7-1 to take a 10-4 lead.
West Texas A&M closed out the set with a 9-1 run.

- Espinoza led the offense with seven kills.
- Hernandez finished with six kills.
- Eliana Mata had 13 assists and three digs.
