GAME 9 PREVIEW: Lobos meet Eastern New Mexico for rematch at Jackson Field

College football season is beginning to wrap up with only three weeks left in Sul Ross State's inaugural Division II year.

This week the Lobos take on Eastern New Mexico for a rematch at 1 p.m. CST on Saturday, Nov. 2 at Jackson Field.

>> HEAD TO HEAD:

First meeting: 1946 (SRSU won, 32-0)

Series history: 1946-1950, 1958-1968, 1970-1971, 1973-1977, 2012-2013, 2023-present

All-time record: Eastern New Mexico is 15-12-1 against the Lobos

Last time SRSU won: 1970 (SRSU won, 35-13)

Last meeting: Eastern New Mexico defeated the Lobos, 36-17, back on Sept. 7 during Week 2

>> SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS:
  • Eastern New Mexico ended its five-game losing streak with a 41-34 win over in-state rival Western New Mexico last week.
  • Eastern New Mexico dominated the rushing attack with 495 yards.
  • The Greyhounds had 528 total yards of offense.
  • Senior fullback Ron Craten rushed for 216 yards on 26 carries with three touchdowns to lead the ground game.
  • Eastern New Mexico only attempted four passes as redshirt junior quarterback Mario Sanchez had just one completion for 33 yards.
  • The Greyhounds lead the Lone Star Conference with 2,772 rushing yards and 457 carries.
  • Craten is the No. 1 rusher in the LSC with 771 yards on 140 carries with 11 touchdowns.
  • Craten also leads the LSC in touchdowns scored with 66 points.

  • Based on yardage, Andrew Martinez remains the second-best quarterback in the LSC with 1,471 yards and 13 touchdowns.
  • Martinez ranks third in the LSC in total offense with 1,618 yards.
  • Austin Ogunmakin remains atop the LSC leaderboard in receiving with 30 catches for 631 yards.
  • Quincy Blair is second in the LSC with 84 total tackles. He is 13 tackles away from the LSC's leader in Cole Lalama from Western New Mexico.
  • Blair has 260 career tackles. He just 19 tackles shy from becoming the program's career leader in tackles. The school record is 279 which was set by Ronin Williams in 2022.
  • Brendon Martin is ninth in the LSC with 54 total tackles while Tamirr Bullock is 10th with 53.
  • Blair and Martin are two of seven players in the LSC to return an interception for a touchdown.
  • Yamil Oaxaca has 693 all-purpose yards to rank eighth in the LSC.
  • Carlos Arreola has made four field goals this season, ranking eighth in the LSC. He made a season-long 41-yard field goal against Angelo State last weekend.
  • Arreola has been nearly perfect on points after a touchdown going 25 for 26.
  • Sul Ross State's 1,816 passing yards make it the second-best passing offense in the LSC behind UT Permian Basin.
