VOLLEYBALL: Lobos drop match in four sets to UTPB

It was a rematch between the Sul Ross State volleyball team and UT Permian Basin Falcons on Saturday night at the Pete P. Gallego Center.

Just like the first match back on Sept. 12, the Falcons were able to come away with a four-set win over the Lobos.

>> HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Lobos went on a 6-0 run to take a 12-5 lead in the middle of the opening set. Anna Kasper tallied three kills during the run.

Sul Ross State increased its lead to 14-6 after a kill from Natalie Hernandez.

Eliana Mata then gave the Lobos a nine-point lead by serving up an ace.

Sul Ross State closed out the set on a 3-0 run with kills from Kasper and Hernandez to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

The momentum continued into the second set for the Lobos as they went up 5-3 after kills from Cassandra Espinoza and Jayci Richters along with an ace by Brylee Sweeten.

UT Permian Basin used a 4-0 run to flip the script to take a two-point lead.

Using a 7-1 run, the Falcons began to pull away and take control of the set by increasing their lead to six points.

The Falcons put the finishing touches on the set with a 4-0 run to tie the match at one-all.

UT Permian Basin was up by seven points in the third set until the Lobos managed to cut the deficit to four points after kills by Espinoza and Angelli Sanchez and an ace by Mata.

The Lobos used a 3-0 run to get to within two, but the Falcons revamped their lead by taking a five-point lead to eventually take a 2-1 lead.

UT Permian Basin had a 15-7 lead in the middle of the fourth set.

The Falcons were about to hold the Lobos to single digits with a 24-9 lead until a service error, but the deficit was too large to overcome for Sul Ross State.
