On Friday night, the Sul Ross State volleyball suffered a sweep to the Western New Mexico Mustangs at the Pete P. Gallego Center.
>> HOW IT HAPPENED:
There were 12 different lead changes in the heart-pounding first set.
Western New Mexico led 6-3 early on before the Lobos used a 4-0 run to take a one-point lead.
Angelli Sanchez and
Edie Coleman each had a kill during the run.
The momentum shifted back and forth until Sul Ross State used a 3-0 run to take an 18-16 lead.
Brylee Sweeten served an ace to highlight the run.
Sul Ross State held a 21-19 lead before the Mustangs went on a 4-0 run to take a 24-21 lead. In the end, Eimaya Medina tallied the final kill to give Western New Mexico the opening set win.
Western New Mexico went on a 6-0 run to start the second set.
The Lobos tried to cut into the deficit with a 4-0 run late in the set after
Natalie Hernandez and
Anna Kasper tallied a pair of kills, but the Mustangs never trailed in the set to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
During the third set, there were 11 lead changes.
The Mustangs started things off with a 5-0 run before the Lobos cut the deficit to one point with a 3-0 run.
Sul Ross State tied up the score at 10-all with a kill from Coleman.
The lead changed nine more times. Western New Mexico closed out the set on a 5-0 run to pull off the sweep.

- Hernandez led the Lobos with 10 kills while Kasper tallied seven.
- Coleman added with five kills and Cassandra Espinoza had four.
- Eliana Mata finished with 12 assists and four digs.
- Mata now has 300 assists on the season.
- Miranda Acosta and Espinoza each had 11 digs.
- Acosta has recorded 180 digs this season.
- Tatyana Colon and Sweeten tallied 10 digs each. Sweeten also had nine assists.
