VOLLEYBALL PREVIEW: Lobos back at home for two matches this weekend

There are only four more opportunities to watch the Sul Ross State volleyball team at home.

This weekend the Lobos host Western New Mexico on Friday, Oct. 25 and UT Permian Basin on Saturday, Oct. 26.

>> PREVIEWING THE WEEKEND:

The Lobos have already met Western New Mexico, suffering a straight-set loss back on Sept. 19 at the Lone Star Conference Volleyball Challenge in Portales, N.M.

Western New Mexico is currently 6-15 overall and 2-7 in LSC play.

The Mustangs are riding a four-game losing streak with a pair of straight-set losses suffered to Texas Woman's University and Angelo State.

Most recently, Western New Mexico fell to Lubbock Christian in four sets.

Graduate student outside hitter Jazmyne Walker has led the Mustangs with 336 kills while junior setter Leticia Correa has a team-high 757 assists.

Walker averages 3.2 kills per set as she ranks fourth in the LSC.

UTPB is sporting an 11-7 overall record while its 4-5 in conference play.

The Falcons are 2-2 in their last four matches after falling to Angelo State on Wednesday night in four sets.

Sul Ross State met UTPB for the season opener on Sept. 12, dropping a four-set match.

Sophomore outside hitter Kennedi Wright has a team-high 169 kills while junior setter Jenna Gray leads the way with 380 assists.

>> THE LOBOS:
  • Sul Ross State tallied its best hitting percentage (.270) of the season during a four-set win over St. Edward's at home on Sept. 27.
  • The Lobos also tallied the most kills in a match this season against St. Edward's, coming away with 59.
  • Natalie Hernandez leads the offense with 124 kills. Her 19 kills against St. Edward's are still a team-high for the season.
  • Eliana Mata is just 12 assists away from tallying 300 for the season. She currently sits at 288.
  • Mata leads the Lobos with 19 service aces.
  • Mata has 775 career assists.
  • Tatyana Colon now has 1,016 career digs. She has 144 digs this season.
  • Miranda Acosta leads the defense with 169 digs.
  • Edie Coleman has a team-high 27 total blocks, 22 block assists and five solo blocks.
  • The Lobos are 2-2 at home. SRSU hasn't finished with a winning record at home since 2021 when it went 7-3.
