SAN ANGELO, Texas — The Sul Ross State volleyball team met Angelo State for the first time since 1985.
Despite having a competitive second set with the nation's 14th-best program in Division II, the Lobos suffered a sweep Friday night at Junell Center – Stephens Arena.
>> HOW IT HAPPENED:
Angelo State began the first set on a 7-0 run.
The Lobos ended the run with a pair of kills from
Cassandra Espinoza before Angelo State used a 5-0 run to lead 12-2.
Angelo State later went on a 7-0 run to lead by 15.
Sul Ross State trailed 10-5 early in the second set before going on a 4-0 run to trail by one point. Espinoza had two kills while
Anna Kasper tallied one during the run.
Going on a 5-0 run, Angelo State pulled ahead to a six-point lead.
The Lobos cut the deficit to two points with a 4-0 run that included kills from
Angelli Sanchez,
Miranda Acosta and
Natalie Hernandez.
The momentum then went back to Angelo State as it went on another 5-0 run.
Using a late 4-0 run, Sul Ross State trailed by four points as
Edie Coleman got the run going with a kill.
Angelo State started the final set scoring five unanswered points until the Lobos ended the run with a three uanswered points that had two kills by Coleman and Sanchez.
Putting together a 4-0 run, Angelo State went up by eight as it was simply too much for the Lobos to handle.

- Hernandez led the way with eight kills while she had seven digs.
- Sanchez added with seven kills while Espinoza finished with six.
- Eliana Mata tallied 13 assists and eight digs.
- Acosta finished with 19 digs and four assists.
- Tatyana Colon had 11 digs.
