Last season, the Sul Ross State volleyball team pulled off the upset of the visiting East Texas Baptist University Tigers.
The Lobos were in search of that same magic this year.
Unfortunately, the Tigers came in and swept the Lobos by the scores of 25-15, 25-12, 25-14, Friday night at the Pete P. Gallego Center.
>> HOW IT HAPPENED:
ETBU went up 10-3 early in the opening set.
Sul Ross State used a 5-0 run to cut the deficit to two points.
Cassandra Espinoza and
Loren Garcia each highlighted the run with a kill.
The Tigers then ramped up their lead to take the set by 10.
Sul Ross State kept things tight to start the second set as
Daniella Garcia and Espinoza tallied some kills, but the Tigers surged ahead to lead by six.
ETBU was too much for the Lobos to handle as it took the second set by 13 points.
Similar to the second set, the Lobos were able to hang around in the third set, but the Tigers were too dominant.
