AUSTIN, Texas — Behind 16 kills from
Daniella Garcia, the Sul Ross State volleyball team defeated the Concordia University (Texas) Tornados in four sets Friday night at the Concordia Fieldhouse.
>> HOW IT HAPPENED:
Concordia held a majority of the lead in the opening set until the Lobos tied up the score on back to back service aces by
Loren Garcia.
The Tornados then used a 5-1 run to take back the lead and eventually win the set, 25-19.
There were five different lead changes in the second set before Sul Ross State went on a 4-0 run to lead 19-15.
Cassandra Espinoza tallied two kills during the run.
Concordia went on a 4-0 run to tie the score at 19-all.
The Lobos responded with another 4-0 run to take a 23-19 lead.
Sarah Chavez and Espinoza each had a kill during the momentum-changing run.
Sul Ross State held on to win by four to tie up the match.
The Lobos held a six-point lead early in the middle of the third set. Chavez and
Jayci Richters came away with a pair of kills during the 3-0 run.
Never trailing in the set, Sul Ross State came away with the 25-19 win to take a 2-1 lead in the match.
The Lobos carried the momentum into the fourth set as they led by as much as 10 after a kill from
Daniella Garcia and a service ace by
Caitlyn Pena.
Concordia went on a 5-0 run to cut the deficit to five, but the Lobos didn't falter.
Sul Ross State closed out the set with a 3-0 run highlighted by two kills from
Daniella Garcia and
Loren Garcia.

- Colon has a team-best 17 service aces and 184 digs.
