It was a physical and intense match for the Sul Ross State men's soccer team during the season opener against University of the Southwest on Friday afternoon at the Lobo Soccer Field.
The Lobos fought hard, but the Mustangs came out with the 2-0 victory.
>> HOW IT HAPPENED:
University of the Southwest scored in the first two minutes with an equalizer by Richard Wohl.
The Mustangs got their final goal in the 38th minute by Millalvy Lopez.
Things got very intense in the second half as two yellow cards and a red card were handed out.
Sul Ross State goalkeeper
Julio Fernandez was impenetrable after allowing the two goals as he made 10 total saves during the contest, eight in the second half.
Justin Quinonez,
Pablo Herrera and
Angel Lugo each had two shots during the match for the Lobos.

- It was the first official game for new head coach Bailey Guffin at Sul Ross State.
- The Lobos are searching for their first victory since Oct. 22, 2021.
- Sul Ross State had eight shots with four coming in each half.
- Six cards were handed out in the contest.
- This was Sul Ross State's first meeting with University of the Southwest since Sept. 7, 2019.
