VOLLEYBALL: Daniella Garcia tallies 15 kills as Lobos sweep McMurry

It was the best offensive performance of the season.

The Sul Ross State volleyball team made quick work of the McMurry University War Hawks with a sweep, 25-12, 25-19, 25-17, on Saturday afternoon at the Pete P. Gallego Center.

>> HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Lobos started the first set with a 5-0 run that was highlighted by two kills from Daniella Garcia, a kill by Loren Garcia and a service ace from Eliana Mata.

Sul Ross State later used a 6-0 run to increase its lead to 15-5. Cassandra Espinoza had two kills, Sarah Chavez tallied one kill and Brylee Sweeten served up an ace during the run.

Daniella Garcia and Loren Garcia delivered one kill each to put the Lobos up by 11 as they eventually took the set by 13 points.

There were six lead changes at the start of the second set. McMurry began to pull away with a 14-9 lead.

Sul Ross State rallied back with a 4-0 run to trail by one point.

The Lobos tied up the set at 15-all after a kill and a block from Jayci Richters.

Using another 4-0 run, Sul Ross State took a 19-16 lead. Edie Coleman and Chavez each had a kill during the momentum changing run.

The Lobos began to separate themselves with a 5-0 run. Daniella Garcia laid down the final kill to put Sul Ross State up 2-0 in the match.

After the three early lead changes, the Lobos used a 3-0 run to take a 6-4 lead in the third set. Daniella Garcia added two kills during the run.

Sul Ross State extended its lead to six points after going on a 4-0 run.

Riding a solid wave of momentum, the Lobos finished the set with a 3-0 run that was capped off by a kill from Chavez.

  • The Lobos recorded 45 kills to tally their best hitting percentage of the season (.392).
  • Daniella Garcia once again led the team in kills as she had 15 along with three total blocks.
  • Loren Garcia tallied nine kills, one service ace and three digs.
  • Espinoza added with seven kills and 11 digs.
  • Chavez and Richters each had five kills.
  • Mata finished with a double-double recording 20 assists and 10 digs. This was her sixth double-double of the season.
  • Sweeten had 15 assists and nine digs.
  • Tatyana Colon recorded 13 digs and five assists.
