MEN'S SOCCER: St. Thomas blanks Sul Ross 7-0

Lobos come up short in Snyder

SNYDER — It was an opportunity for the Sul Ross men's soccer team to take down a quality side in the undefeated University of St. Thomas.

St. Thomas dominated the offensive side as Taty Aleman scored four goals in a 7-0 victory over the Lobos at Western Texas College's Weaver Field on Saturday evening.

"We came out with a good game plan and executed to the best of our ability for a good portion of the first 45 minutes," said Sul Ross head coach Jon Evan. "Ultimately, all the time on the road and some of the nagging injuries we're dealing with and another tough opponent were too much for us to overcome."

Juan Gutierrez broke the ice in the first half with a goal in the 32nd minute.

The opportunities were abundant for the Celts in the second half. Darin Garcia made the score 2-0 with an assist from Ian Alvarez in the 52nd minute.

Five minutes later, Alvarez found the back of the net off an assist by Daniel Castro.

Everything began to fall into place for St. Thomas from that point on.

Aleman tallied a goal in the 70th minute off an assist by Gabe Salako. Aleman scored another (78') with help from Vinh Le.

Aleman put on an offensive clinic by notching the next two goals in the 81st and 83rd minutes with assists from Le and Nico Chabuathong.

Sul Ross was held to two shots, with one coming on the goal.

"UST is a well-coached team, and one of the better teams at this level right now," Evan added. "We had some young guys step up and do an admirable job filling in, but we fell short and we'll own that as a team."
