ALPINE, Texas - Baseball fell 4-1 and 7-5 to Texas Lutheran in Friday's home doubleheader.
Game 1: Texas Lutheran 4, Sul Ross 1 (7 innings)
Texas Lutheran scored a pair in the top of the second for a 2-0 advantage.
Jorge Marquez cut the deficit in half in the third with an RBI double to score
Orlando Moreno for a 2-1 score.
The Bulldogs got two more in the fifth on a two-run home run for a 4-1 lead that went final.
Moreno led the Lobos with two hits and a run scored.
Sam Russell went 4.2 innings with a pair of strikeouts as the starter.
Game 2: Texas Lutheran 7, Sul Ross 5
TLU opened scoring with a run in the top of the second.
Sully came back with a pair in the bottom of the inning with a
Tye Lindsey RBI single to score
Jared Lorenz and a
Matthew Wheeler groundout to second to plate Lindsey for a 2-1 lead.
Lorenz tripled home
Jared Roiz in the third before Lindsey singled in Lorenz for a 4-1 lead after three.
TLU chipped away late with one in the sixth and another in the eighth for a 4-3 game going to the ninth.
The Bulldogs kept the pressure on the Lobos, tying the game 4-4 and adding three more for a 7-4 advantage going bottom nine.
After a
Tristan Karels single, Lorenz stepped in and doubled him home to make it 7-5. Lindsey then stepped in as the tying run but struck out swinging for a 7-5 final.
Lorenz and Lindsey each finished with a team-high three hits and two RBI.
Ian Craigie started on the mound, going six innings, surrendering two earned runs and striking out four in a no-decision.
The Lobos fall to 7-5 and remain 7-2 in the ASC. Texas Lutheran improve to 4-6 and remains 0-0 in the SCAC.
Sully and the Bulldogs conclude their three-game series on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Kokernot Field.
