ALPINE, Texas - Baseball had a late lead but couldn't hold on in a 10-9 loss to Texas Lutheran.
"This TLU series is exactly the opponent we needed in our open week," said head coach
Bobby Mesker. "They won their conference last year on their way to a regional. They put pressure on you defensively, call pitches well, make pitches when needed and play solid defense. You just have to play all three facets of the game well to win. They just aren't going to beat themselves. We have things to work on, but there are also signs of a quality club from our guys."
TLU scored one in the second and third for a 2-0 lead after three.
Estevan Ortiz put the first run on the board for the Lobos in the fourth, scoring on a passed ball.
Tristan Karels then singled home
Jared Roiz for a 2-2 tie.
The Bulldogs answered back in the top of the fifth with two more for a 4-2 advantage.
Tye Lindsey crushed a three-run shot to left center in the bottom of the sixth to take a 5-4 lead. Roiz and Karels scored on the home run for their first lead of the game.
TLU came back with one in the seventh and two in the eighth for a 7-5 advantage going bottom eight.
Karels singled home Ortiz to cut it to one before Lindsey again supplied the power. With Lorenz and Karels on, Lindsey sent another to left center and gone for a 9-7 lead after eight.
The Bulldogs continued to be a thorn in the side of Sully, putting three on the board in the top of the ninth for a 10-9 lead that went final.
Lindsey finished with a game-high six RBI.
Roiz matched a game-best three hits.
The Lobos stand at 7-5 on the season. TLU moves to 5-6.
