MARSHALL, Texas - Baseball was bested in all three games over the weekend by East Texas Baptist.
Game 1: East Texas Baptist 6, Sul Ross 2 (7 innings)
Peyten Kennard singled in the top of the second inning, scoring
Jorge Marquez and
Tye Lindsey for a 2-0 lead.
ETBU answered with one in the bottom of the second and another in the fourth for a 2-2 tie. The Tigers tacked on four more in the sixth inning to pull away for the 6-2 win.
Sam Russell started and went 5.1 innings with two strikeouts.
Game 2: East Texas Baptist 15, Sul Ross 2
Tristan Karels singled in
Orlando Moreno to give Sully an early 1-0 advantage going bottom one.
ETBU responded with three in the first to take a 3-1 lead before using six runs over the next three innings to extend their lead to 9-1 after four.
Carsen Thor launched a solo home run in the fifth to make it 9-2.
The Tigers scored the next six over the final four innings for the 15-2 final.
Game 3: East Texas Baptist 5, Sul Ross 3
Jared Lorenz doubled around Lindsey in the top of the first for a 1-0 advantage.
ETBU answered with two in the second and one in the third for a 3-1 lead after three.
Moreno cut it to 3-2 with a solo shot in the top of the fourth.
The Tigers took a two-run lead again with one in the bottom of the fourth.
Thor got it to 4-3 with a solo shot in the sixth, but ETBU tacked on one in the seventh for a 5-3 score that eventually went final.
The Lobos stand at 10-11 and 7-8 in the ASC. ETBU moves to 19-7 and 16-2.
Sully next hosts UT Dallas for a doubleheader on Friday, April 1 at Kokernot Field.
