ALPINE, Texas - Baseball hosted #13/14 UT Dallas over the weekend, falling in all three to the Comets.
Game 1: UT Dallas 7, Sul Ross 4 (7 innings)
Sully answered a two-run top of the third with a bases-clearing triple by
Tristan Karels.
Jared Roiz,
Matthew Wheeler and
Orlando Moreno scored on the triple for a 3-2 lead.
The Comets responded with two more in the top of the fourth for a 4-3 advantage.
Karels tied it up 4-4 in the fifth with a double that scored
Jared Lorenz.
UTD took the lead for good with two in the sixth and one in the seventh for a 7-4 final.
Sam Russell completed four innings as the starter with five strikeouts.
Game 2: UT Dallas 25, Sul Ross 9
Sully took a 1-0 lead after the first when Moreno scored on an error.
The Comets proceeded to score the next 17 runs for a 17-1 advantage after four.
Roiz plated Thor on a groundout to short before
Peyten Kennard singled home
Jorge Marquez.
Estevan Ortiz then finished a four-run fourth with a two-run shot to left field for a 17-5 score.
UTD outscored the Lobos 8-4 over the final five innings for a 25-9 final.
Lorenz finished with a team-high four hits and matched Moreno with two runs scored.
Game 3: UT Dallas 17, Sul Ross 6 (8 innings)
Sully erased a 1-0 lead with four in the first. Karels tied the game with a double that scored Lorenz before Thor singled home Karels. Marquez later singled around Thor and Roiz for a 4-1 advantage after the first.
The Comets came back with five in the top of the second to take a 6-4 lead.
Lorenz cut it to one after scoring on a throwing error in the bottom of the second for a 6-5 score.
After UTD scored three in the third, Thor cut it to 9-6 after singling around Moreno in the bottom of the fourth.
The Comets scored the final eight of the game for a 17-6 final after eight innings.
Thor matched a game-high three hits. Lorenz, Karels, Roiz and Marquez each had two.
The Lobos stand at 10-14 and 7-11 in conference. UT Dallas moves to 20-6 and 13-5.
Sully next travels to Brownwood to take on Howard Payne, starting with a single game on Friday, April 8.
