AUSTIN, Texas - After falling 3-1 in game one, baseball scored the final four runs of game two for a 4-3 win and doubleheader split with Concordia.
"I thought we were prepared offensively for Concordia on the road," said head coach
Bobby Mesker. "It turns out we weren't. We were prepared with the mindset of playing from behind and holding on to a one-run lead late. It takes a special group to pull game two out like that."
Game 1: Concordia 4, Sul Ross 1 (7 innings)
Concordia got on the board first with a lone run in the bottom of the third.
It remained 1-0 until the Tornados added two more in the sixth.
Tristan Karels tripled home
Tye Lindsey with two outs in the seventh to cut it to two, but that was the final run in a 3-1 loss.
Sam Russell threw six innings of five-hit ball. He surrendered three earned runs, walked one and added four strikeouts.
Game 2: Sul Ross 4, Concordia 3
The Tornados got out ahead with two runs in the first and one in the second for a 3-0 lead after two.
Both sides were then held scoreless until the Lobos crept back in the seventh.
Orlando Moreno first doubled home Karels.
Matthew Wheeler moved to third on the double and later came in to score on a passed ball to cut it to 3-2.
Now top eight,
Jared Roiz scored on an RBI groundout by
Jared Lorenz to tie it 3-3. Karels then stepped in and doubled home
Jorge Marquez for a 4-3 advantage.
Starter
Ian Craigie pitched four shutout innings after the second. He finished after six innings, giving up six hits and striking out eight.
Aidan Mow pitched the final three innings. He allowed no runs on three hits with two strikeouts to pick up the win by a 4-3 score.
The Lobos stand at 4-1 on the year and 4-1 in conference. Concordia is 3-2 and 3-2.
Sully looks to take the series on Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. first pitch against the Tornados.
