ABILENE, Texas - After falling behind 21-6 through the first quarter, women's hoops remained competitive the rest of the way in a 79-62 loss to Hardin-Simmons.
First Quarter
Hardin-Simmons got out to a 15-2 lead.
Ashley Nunez and
Alexis Carmosino both cut it to 11 before the Cowgirls took a 21-6 advantage to the second.
Second Quarter
Trailing by 21, four from
Vania Hampton and two from
Teresa Quintana cut it to 31-16 midway through the second. Sully later got within 14 with a
Alyssa Ramlochan layup, but the Lobos went to the half down 40-23.
Third Quarter
Marley Rokas opened the second half with a pair of free throws to cut it to 15. Carmosino later got it to 47-33 with a jumper. Trailing by 19,
Lauren Lusk made back-to-back buckets before Hampton sank a triple to make it 53-40 with less than two minutes left in the third. HSU eventually took a 57-41 lead to the final quarter.
Fourth Quarter
Hampton opened the fourth with a layup to trim it to 14. The Lobos were able to get within 14 four more times but came no closer in a 79-62 loss.
Stats
Hampton led the game with 16 points and had six rebounds.
Ramlochan scored 13 points and had a team-high seven rebounds.
Sully falls to 13-11 and 9-10 in the ASC. The Cowgirls move to 17-4 and 12-4.
The Lobos conclude the regular season at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday in Abilene against McMurry.
