ABILENE, Texas - Women's hoops never trailed in a 94-57 win over McMurry to conclude the regular season.
"It was a great team effort today," said head coach
Katie Novak. "We shared the ball well and really relied on one another. This game was momentum for us going into the tournament next week."
The Lobos now prepare for the American Southwest Conference Tournament. They enter as the #6 seed and will take on #3 Hardin-Simmons on Thursday, February 24 at 5:00 p.m. in Marshall, TX.
ASC TOURNAMENT CENTRAL
First Quarter
Alexis Carmosino opened with a layup before McMurry answered with a jumper for the only tie of the game.
Teresa Quintana responded with back-to-back triples for an 8-2 advantage. The Lobos continued to hold the lead, only allowing the War Hawks to get within two. The last 1:41 saw a 7-1 run with three from Quintana and five from
Keona Loftis for a 26-17 lead after one.
Second Quarter
Loftis started a 14-2 run with a triple that upped Sully's lead to 40-19. Their lead got to 21 three more times. Their last started with a 5-0 run om a triple from Carmosino and two free throws from
Kayla James for a 51-28 lead at the half.
Third Quarter
Sully's largest lead of the third was 33. It first came at the end of a 8-0 run with six from
Marley Rokas and two from Loftis for a 64-31 score. The other 33-point lead came after
Courtney Cavallin made a layup and
Caitlyn Corley later added a free throw for a 73-40 advantage going to the fourth.
Fourth Quarter
Rokas twice made it a 35-point lead in the fourth before
Cassie Hogan's layup made it 84-47 near the midway point. 38 was the largest lead of the game and came twice.
Camryn Medina first got there with a triple for a 90-52 score and Rokas later made it 92-54 with a layup. The Lobos were able to play their full complement of players, all 13 getting at least six minutes on the floor. A good test for the tournament next week, the Lobos took this one by a 94-57 final.
Stats
Loftis finished with a career-high 19 points on 7-of-8 shooting, 3-of-4 from three and 2-of-2 from the line. She also had a game-high four assists.
Quintana shot 5-of-5 from the floor, all from beyond the arc. She was also 2-of-2 from the line for 17 points on the day.
Carmosino finished with 14 points and six rebounds.
Rokas added 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting with six rebounds and three assists.
Hampton led the game with seven rebounds and a team-high three steals.
The Lobos shot 66% from the field and 54.5% from beyond the arc.
Sully finishes the regular season 14-11 and 10-10 in conference. The War Hawks end 3-20 and 2-15.
