Carmosino goes for career-high 28 in ASC Quarterfinals loss to Hardin-Simmons

MARSHALL, Texas - Alexis Carmosino scored a career-high 28 points, but women's hoops was outlasted 85-70 by Hardin-Simmons in the ASC Quarterfinals.

"I am so proud of our effort this entire season," said head coach Katie Novak. "The last game is never one that is a happy one, and I will miss our seniors! We battled very hard all season long. They have a lot to be proud of."

First Quarter
HSU jumped out to an 8-2 advantage before Teresa Quintana hit a triple to make it 8-5. Later down 20-11, Alexis Carmosino brought it back to six on a three-pointer with a minute left. The Cowgirls got the final bucket of the first for a 22-14 score after one.

Second Quarter
Lauren Lusk answered an opening HSU bucket with a pair of free throws to start an 8-0 run. Alyssa Ramlochan and Cassie Hogan later hit back-to-back jumpers before Vania Hampton finished the run with two from the free throw line to trail 24-22 with 5:26 left in the first half. The Cowgirls stretched it back to 32-24, but the Lobos continued to fight. Keona Loftis started a 6-0 run with a triple. Hampton added a layup before Loftis finished the run with a free throw for a 32-30 score. HSU finished the last 1:52 of half on a 7-2 run for a 39-32 lead at the break.

Third Quarter
Carmosino opened the half with a jumper to cut it to five and later got it to five again with a pair of free throws. Carmosino scored the first seven of the second half for the Lobos, the last being a triple to cut it to 43-39 with just over seven minutes left. Hogan later got it to 47-43 with a layup, but HSU answered with the next eight to make it 55-43 with under four minutes left in the third. A pair of Ramlochan free throws preceded buckets from Kayla James and Carmosino for a 6-0 run to make it 55-49. HSU finished the third on a small 5-2 run to lead 60-51 going to the fourth.

Fourth Quarter
HSU opened up a 12-point lead to start the quarter and led by double digits until Ramlochan and Hampton made back-to-back layups for a 74-67 score with under two minutes left. The Lobos continued to fight but were ultimately bested 85-70.

Stats
Carmosino's 28 came on 10-of-25 shooting and 6-of-7 from the free throw line. She added eight rebounds and two steals.

Ramlochan led the Lobos with nine rebounds, adding nine points and tying a game-high three steals.

Loftis led the game with nine assists.

Sully finishes the season 14-12 and 10-10 in conference.
