Lobos erase 21-point deficit for 97-91 overtime win over Concordia

ALPINE, Texas - Men's hoops would not be denied, erasing a 55-34 deficit with 13:56 left in a 97-91 overtime win over Concordia on Thursday night.

"Once again, our Goons had that place rocking," said head coach Xavier Webb. "We need that energy and atmosphere again Saturday for our last home game. Our guys fought and dug down deep to fight some more. It was a very exciting game and was good to pull out a win. Saturday is going to be a big test against one of the most talented teams in the nation and #1 in conference (UMHB). We need the Gallego Center ROCKIN' for the last one in The Pine!"

First Half
The Lobos set the pace early, answering an opening CTX layup with a 10-0 run. Julian Paredes made it 3-2 with a triple before Logan Dixon added the final seven on three layups and a free throw for a 10-2 lead just three minutes in. Concordia then responded with the next seven for an 11-10 lead. Dixon came right back with a pair of free throws to give Sully the slim advantage. Three more lead changes followed with Concordia twice going ahead by seven. Paredes and Dixon later teamed up for a 7-0 run to cut it to 25-23. That was one of four occasions the Lobos got within two before a late CTX layup put the Tornados ahead 34-30 going to break.

Second Half
Concordia opened with the first six of the second half to lead 40-30. That was the beginning of an longer 21-4 run over the first 6:04 for a 55-34 advantage. Sully continued to fight, cutting it to 58-45 on a Gabe Sanchez triple at the 12-minute mark. It remained a double-digit deficit until Dixon completed a three-point play with a free throw at 9:00 to make it 64-55. The Lobos got to within seven at 7:36 after a Paredes layup made it 66-59. Concordia immediately got it back to twelve and held at least a nine-point lead until the final three minutes turned Sully's way. Down 11, Dixon cut it to eight with a three-pointer. Paredes then got a steal and took it in for a layup for make it six. Sully then forced a missed shot and cut it to four with a layup from Dixon. Now with under a minute left, the Lobos caused a turnover and Dixon again got into the paint for a layup with 30 seconds left to make it a two-point game. Concordia went to the free throw line with 21 seconds left looking to make it a two-possession game. The crowd at the end of the second was electric. With the fans helping give the Lobos an extra boost, both free throws from CTX were missed, giving the Lobos a chance at the tie or win. Sanchez proved the be the man for the moment, driving in and hitting the game-tying bucket with 6.1 seconds left to force overtime.

Overtime
Trey Nelson answered an opening CTX free throw with a layup for Sully's first lead since 14-13. Concordia answered right back with a layup to go ahead 84-83. Paredes took it right back, sinking a triple next time down the floor for an 86-84 lead. After Concordia went 1-for-2 from the free throw line, Dixon and Nelson made back-to-back layups before Sanchez sank a triple for a 7-0 run and 93-85 lead with 50 seconds left. CTX cut it to five with the next three before Nelson stepped to the line and hit a pair of free throws for a 95-88 advantage with 19 seconds left. Concordia got it to four with a late three, but Nelson again stepped to the line and hit both with 12 seconds left for a 97-91 lead that went final.

Stats
Dixon finished with a game-high 30 points on 12-of-20 shooting and 5-of-7 from the free throw line. He added four rebounds and two steals.

Paredes scored 24 with a game-high 12 rebounds. He also added eight assists, four steals and a block.

Nelson matched Paredes for a game-high eight assists. He also scored 16 points and had eight rebounds.

Sanchez finished with 17 points on 5-of-10 shooting, 3-of-5 from beyond the arc and 4-of-4 from the free throw line.

The Lobos are winners of their last three. They move to 9-13 and 6-11 in the ASC. Concordia falls to 8-11 and 5-10.

Sully concludes the home part of their season on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at the Gallego Center.
