Lobos nipped 78-74 by visiting Mary Hardin-Baylor

ALPINE, Texas - Men's hoops battled throughout with the first place team in the ASC, falling 78-74 to visiting Mary Hardin-Baylor.

Logan Dixon, Jake Lopez and Julian Paredes were all honored for senior day before the final home game.

First Half
Sully's first lead came on a Logan Dixon jumper to make it 7-5 early on. Four more lead changes ensued, the fourth turning into a 5-0 run for the Lobos. Trey Nelson took the lead back with a jumper before Dixon's layup was good as he was fouled. He hit the free throw for a 15-11 advantage with 13:55 left. Sully upped their leader to seven with a later 6-0 run. It started with a jumper from Nelson before back-to-back layups from Gabe Sanchez for a 23-16 score midway through the first. The Lobos held the lead until the 6:07 mark when UMHB sank a pair of free throws for a 27-26 lead that quickly ballooned to 35-26. Sully later used a 5-0 run by Dixon to cut it to 35-31 with under four minutes, but the Crusaders went on to extend their lead to 46-36 heading to the half.

Second Half
UMHB increased the margin to 15 and continued to hold a double-digit lead until Nelson's triple with just over 12 minutes left made it 58-49. Paredes supplied the next bucket, a layup to cut it to seven. The Crusaders continued to hold at least a seven-point lead until Sanchez paired a triple with a Jordan Rhyne free throw to trail 70-64 with 4:04 left. Back down 10 with three minutes left, Paredes added a triple and a layup to cut it to 76-71 with just over a minute remaining. Dixon later got it to 76-72 on a free throw with 22 seconds left, but UMHB was able to come away with the 78-74 win over the Lobos.

Stats
Dixon's final game at the Gallego Center saw him tied for team-highs of 17 points and seven rebounds. He also had a game-best three steals.

Nelson also scored 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting.

Sanchez matched the team-high 17 points and seven rebounds.

Paredes finished his final home game with 14 points, seven rebounds and a team-high four assists.

The Lobos fall to 9-14 and 6-12 in conference. UMHB stands at 19-2 and 14-2.

Sully next takes on Hardin-Simmons on Thursday, February 17 in Abilene.
