BELTON — The Sul Ross State men's basketball team was trying to keep the momentum going on Saturday afternoon at the Mayborn Campus Center against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
UMHB led by 13 points at halftime to eventually come away with the 93-80 victory.
There was an early 3-3 tie after a three-pointer by
Julian Paredes. The Crusaders hit a three-pointer to go ahead by three.
Christian Nevarez then made a jumper to put the Lobos within one.
UMHB jumped out to an eight-point lead with 16:29 left in the opening half. Sul Ross fought back to within two after a pair of clutch three-pointers made by
Caelyb Kerley.
The pendulum swung back to the Crusaders as they extended their lead to 10 with 11:39 left to go.
A pair of three-pointers by
Hayden Peterson and a layup from
Gabe Sanchez cut the deficit to four with nine minutes until halftime.
UMHB used a 7-0 run to break away with an 11-point lead.
The Crusaders showed their dominance in the second half as they took a 26-point lead and never looked back.
Paredes and Kerley teamed up to score 15 points each. Kerley also tallied six rebounds and six assists. The duo also combined for six 3-pointers.
Trey Nelson chipped in with 12 points while
Daveone Bass finished with 11.
The Lobos knocked down 14 three-pointers. Peterson made three shots from beyond the arc while scoring nine points.
Sul Ross shot 50.8 percent from the field while it grabbed 30 rebounds.
